This command DELETES files. After using it, the files affected are gone, and can only be recovered with great effort. So, watch it!
When you select this command, an alert box appears asking if you really want to delete files. Click "Nuke 'Em" if you're resolved, or click "No, don't do it." to back out.
Holding down the [Option] key while selecting "Delete Batch" will delete ONLY selected files.
When the File Info window is frontmost, the "Delete Batch" command on the "Options" menu changes to "Delete File". Selecting this command will delete the file shown and close the File Info window.
This command can be aborted. Those files not yet BLOWN AWAY receive a stay of execution.
A good example of using this command is removing extra "System" files from a hard disk. This is a common problem; when many people use a single Macintosh, sometimes a person may install a new program on a hard disk by creating a folder for the program, then copying all the files from the master disk to the new folder. UNFORTUNATELY, that master disk may contain a System Folder on it, and now your hard disk has two System Folders. This is bad!! The Mac operating system can get severely confused by having more than one System Folder on a hard disk; the most common indicators of this situation are intermittent crashes and trouble printing.
The fix: Use "Find Files" to search for files of type 'ZSYS' and name string "Sys". If you get more than one file named "System", identify which one is the "real" System file (the one in the folder named "System Folder" at the root level of the volume directory). Remove that one from the file list, check again to make sure that it was the right one, then, delete the other files named "System".
